Background
Your business number, a unique nine digit number, is assigned by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and is necessary for many common business operations, including registering for a GST/HST number.
For tax-related numbers in Quebec, register directly with:
CRA (usually sent by mail to the head office within 6 months)
Find your business number
If you have already incorporated or registered your business and received a business number, it will be displayed on your Ownr dashboard.
Follow the steps below to find your business number:
On the sidebar, click Organization
Click Company Info
Scroll down to Organization Information. The business number appears in the middle of the Organization Information panel.
The business number is assigned by the CRA within moments of the business registration being completed.
In Ontario, it can take up to 4 business days for the business number to be assigned for incorporations.
Ontario sole proprietorships
CRA business numbers aren't displayed on Ownr for Ontario sole proprietorships created after August 5, 2025.
Contact the CRA directly at 1-800-959-5525 to get your number.
Note that your CRA business number is different from your business registration number. The business registration number is issued by the Ontario Business Registry. It is displayed on the Dashboard Organization Information panel in the Business Information Number field.
Missing business number
If you do not see the business number on your Ownr dashboard after four business days, then a new business number has not been assigned.
If you have registered a sole proprietorship and have been assigned a business number for a previous sole proprietorship, then your new business would use the same business number.

Add your business number to your dashboard
Follow the steps below to learn how to update your existing business number on your Ownr dashboard:
On the sidebar, click Organization
Click the Company Info section.
Scroll down to the section labeled Organization Information.
Click Add Business Number. The Add Business Number window will be displayed.
In the Business Number field, enter your business number.
Click Submit. Your business number will be displayed on your dashboard.
