Your Business Number is assigned by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and is necessary for many common business operations, including registering for a GST/HST number.
For tax-related numbers in Quebec, you will need to register directly with:
CRA (usually sent by mail to the head office within 6 months)
If you have already incorporated or registered your business and received a Business Number, you can find it on your Ownr dashboard by clicking the Organization tab and scrolling down to Organization Information.
Generally, the Business Number is assigned by the CRA within moments of the business registration being completed. In Ontario, however, it can take up to 4 business days for the business number to be assigned.
If you do not see the Business Number in your Ownr dashboard after four business days, then a new business number has not been assigned. If you have registered a Sole Proprietorship and have been assigned a Business Number for a previous Sole Proprietorship, then your new business would use the same Business Number.
In this case, you can store your existing business number in your Ownr dashboard. Click on the section labeled Company Info under the Organization tab, scroll down to the section labeled Organizational Information and then click Add Business Number.
