If you are accessing Ownr on a mobile device, follow the identification verification instructions in the How to complete identity verification on your mobile device article.
Identity verification (IDV) is the process of confirming that you are who you claim to be. This process helps prevent fraud and protects sensitive information.
Ownr uses an RBC digital document verification tool on your smartphone for IDV. The three-step process involves scanning a QR code, taking a photo of a piece of government-issued identification and taking a selfie to confirm your identity.
Once you're verified, we won't keep the photos of your identification or your selfie.
Get started completing identity verification in the Get started section.
Get started
Using the camera on your smartphone, scan the QR code displayed on Ownr. The identity verification page will be displayed on your phone.
Your QR code is valid for 30 minutes.
If it has been more than 30 minutes since you started this process, refresh the page to generate a new QR code.
Up next: Take a photo of your identification
Take a photo of your identification
In this step, you will take a photo of your identification. We'll compare the name and date of birth on your identification with the information that you entered into Ownr.
Select a valid form of identification
Before taking a photo, consult the list below to confirm that you are using an accepted form of identification.
Your name and date of birth on your identification must match your name and date of birth exactly as they appear on Ownr.
If you have a mononym, or have two or more last names and do not have a first name, enter a "." in the first name field on Ownr.
Some government-issued documents are not accepted because they do not have the required security features that allow for rigorous digital IDV.
